Must be ASCP certified in cytotechnology with a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university. Requires effective interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Ensures that specimens received in the laboratory are handled properly as to identification, numbering and preparation as smears or cell blocks.
Makes initial diagnosis on all cytopathology consultations.
Makes final diagnosis on all negative gynecological material; refers all abnormal gynecological material and all non-gyn material to pathologist for final diagnosis.
Utilizes laboratory computer information system to enter results correctly and enter necessary QC/QA information. Must be able to retrieve necessary patient information.
