About the Role
As the Senior Manager, Real Estate Tax, you'll be the driving force behind property tax strategy—from analyzing assessments and managing appeals to budgeting and coordinating with cross-functional teams. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly influence bottom line and operational efficiency.
What You'll Do
Strategic Analysis & Decision-Making
- Evaluate property tax assessments and determine appeal viability using cost, income, and sales comparison approaches
- Conduct comprehensive case reviews by analyzing sales data, assessment notices, rent rolls, income/expense reports, and market trends
- Make critical decisions on pursuing appeals and subsequent options
Leadership & Representation
- Lead the entire appeal process from initial assessment through resolution
- Represent cases before administrative appeals boards and participate in settlement negotiations
- Interview, evaluate, and negotiate with external consultants and attorneys
Financial Planning & Collaboration
- Own real estate tax projection and budgeting cycles
- Partner with Asset Management, Finance, Legal, Property Management, and Accounting teams to explain budgets, valuations, and appeal strategies
- Provide clear, detailed explanations of complex property tax matters to stakeholders
Operations & Systems
- Maintain and update property tax databases and information systems
- Conduct research, analyze evidence, and develop strategic recommendations for complex tax matters
- Ensure accurate tax bill processing and documentation
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial property assessment and/or valuation
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Real Estate, or related field
- Advanced knowledge of property taxation principles and valuation techniques
- Strong understanding of property tax and real estate terminology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
