Salary: $100,000 - $140,000 + Full Benefits + Paid Relocation
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Landfill Engineer to join our team in Portland, OR. In this role, you will play a critical part in the successful operation and expansion of our landfill facilities. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of landfill engineering, including permitting, construction, and closure.
Key Responsibilities:
Permitting & Compliance:
Lead the preparation and submission of permit applications, including air quality, water quality, and solid waste permits.
Represent company in regulatory meetings, hearings, and site inspections.
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
Proactively identify and address potential compliance issues.
Construction Management:
Oversee the design and construction of landfill cells, including managing consultants, contractors, and budgets.
Prepare bid documents, conduct bid lettings, and administer construction contracts.
Ensure quality control throughout the construction process.
Capacity Management:
Develop and maintain accurate landfill capacity models.
Optimize landfill space utilization through efficient cell design and fill sequencing.
Collaborate with landfill operations to maximize landfill life.
Project Management:
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including capital improvement projects and environmental compliance initiatives.
Develop and track project budgets and timelines.
Technical Expertise:
Provide technical guidance and support to operations, maintenance, and other departments.
Stay abreast of the latest industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with other engineers, environmental specialists, and operational staff.
Mentor and train junior engineers.
Business Development:
Assist in the evaluation of potential acquisitions and divestitures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
5+ years of relevant experience in landfill engineering.
Strong understanding of environmental regulations, including those related to solid waste disposal, air quality, and water quality.
Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
