Position Overview
The Vice President of Operations, reports to the President of Reynolds Business Unit, and is responsible for the overall direction, strategy, planning, cost control, and execution of manufacturing operations across four plant locations that produce: aluminum foil, disposable aluminum bakeware, parchment paper, butcher paper and wax & freezer paper, as well as cooking bags & liners.
This position is keenly focused on driving Lean operational excellence across safety, cost, people, process, and technology. The Vice President of Operations is charged with ensuring we have forward-thinking structures, processes and technology in place to ensure safety is prioritized across all employees, we secure optimal staffing and training, preventive maintenance and equipment care is prioritized, costs are optimized and the plants are committed to delighting our customers and consumers with quality products.
This leader will drive plant capital expansion projects, product innovation development, automation and technology upgrades, successfully positioning the company for future success.
This Vice President, Operations will develop and implement innovative, cross functional strategic initiatives that leverage Lean and Lean Six Sigma principles, project and change management tools and techniques, learning and development methodologies and other continuous improvement efforts.
We seek an experienced leader with a demonstrated track record driving accountability to cost management through Lean manufacturing, and a continuous improvement culture across a vertically integrated, multi-faceted manufacturing system. This person will champion predictive and preventive maintenance leadership across the equipment network embracing technology to reduce downtime and improve output. Additionally, this person will lead engineering through successful product development and innovation. This individual also will provide enthusiastic leadership that inspires high performance while nurturing a collaborative, results-oriented work environment.
This position will maintain a close partnership with RCP functions including EHS, Procurement, HR, Operational Excellence, Supply Chain, Finance, and IT to ensure a safe and sustained premier manufacturing system. This role will make an immediate impact by:
- Guiding Lean culture transformation and implementation across safety, cost, people, process, and technology.
- Building union relationships across manufacturing sites, driving successful relationships and negotiations to ensure manufacturing continuity.
- Delivering cost savings through deployment of Lean principles and strategic planning.
- Driving leadership development, succession planning, and talent optimization.
- Identifying, leading, and scaling operational initiatives that enhance product performance, streamline processes, and directly contribute to revenue growth, margin improvement and cost reduction.
- Championing predictive and preventive maintenance leadership across the equipment network embracing technology to reduce downtime and improve output.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the operational strategy in alignment with growth goals, cost reduction and strategic plans.
- Build and develop a World Class operations team. Lead the manufacturing and safety functions to ensure products are produced in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner that meets customer needs.
- Accountable for all Key Performance Indicators in Safety, Quality, Productivity and Profitability areas, as well as meeting or exceeding the manufacturing annual operating plan.
- Full responsibility of the organizations P&L, annual budget and capital projects. Develop and manage budgeting as well as budget execution with a focus on product cost and margins. Determine expense budgets and establish cost controls.
- Drive best practices in all areas of responsibility. Provide strategic direction and implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques, driving a culture of continuous improvement across the plants. Identify, recommend, and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce costs.
- Deliver cost savings through deployment of Lean principles and strategic planning.
- Establish management practices that foster a positive work environment, promote high morale throughout the organization and encourage teamwork.
- Build and maintain trusted, collaborative relationships with union leadership to promote operational stability, mutual respect, and shared business objectives.
- Achieve optimal employee headcount with lowest overhead and material costs.
- Champion predictive and preventive maintenance leadership across the equipment network embracing technology to reduce downtime and improve output.
- Facilitate strong and consistent communication between and amongst functional departments with respect and integrity.
- Develop operational expertise, partner and contribute strategically in the areas metal procurement (prime and jumbos), Metal Chemistries, 3rd party manufacturing relationships and non-retail sales.
- Lead engineering across product development and innovation initiatives.
- Manage a $50M capital projects budget, ensuring Reynolds is successfully positioned for the future.
- Develop and lead a highly effective operations team that includes recruiting, hiring, training, retaining, evaluating performance, mentoring, development planning, and succession planning for the operations organization.
- Ensure team members are prepared for opportunities for advancement and sufficient bench strength exists within the organization. Oversee learning efforts focused on skills development, technical training, and business tools
Required Education and Experience
We seek a successful track record of managing and growing operations to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness with a safety-first mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations or related field. MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
- Inspiring, experienced executive with 10+ years of professional progressive experience in multi-site operations leadership. Experience leading in unionized facilities is preferred.
- Experience partnering and negotiating with unions, driving successful relationships to ensure manufacturing continuity.
- Metal or aluminum manufacturing (e.g., metal extrusion, rolling, annealing, smelting, stamping strongly preferred). May consider relevant experience in adjacent process manufacturing and materials conversion.
- Lean manufacturing leadership with a history of identifying and executing productivity improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
- Solid business acumen with a strong understanding of the P&L, annual budget, capital projects, metrics development and maintenance.
- A commitment to excellence and continuous improvement with experience implementing a range continuous improvement processes and initiatives (i.e., 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma, TPM).
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach, capable of balancing long-term vision with day-to-day operational excellence.
- Prior team management experience combined with a proven track record of developing, coaching and mentoring a diverse staff.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and challenge a diverse group of managers and leaders to exceed performance expectations.
- Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
- Strong project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
- Well-developed analytical skills as well as organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. It will include a base salary and an annual performance bonus, long term incentives, and other benefits and perquisites.
