TRAVEL: 75-100%
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Continuous Improvement will be a key leader in the Lean transformation effort across our client company, beginning in the Miami area. They will be a critical partner to the Chief Transformation Officer and Lean Focus consulting team to jumpstart the organization’s Lean journey. The right candidate will have experience deploying Lean in a logistics, distribution, and/or warehouse environment.
The Continuous Improvement Director will be a “shop floor leader” with significant experience using and leading continuous
improvement tools, systems, and methodologies, including SMED, 5S, Standard Work, TPI, Visual Management, problem solving (A3) and Value Stream Mapping. They will be responsible for training other employees on Lean and sustaining Kaizen event activity.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Deploying Lean fundamentals and training across company locations
• Creating a problem solving culture and developing subject matter experts
• Developing Lean/CI competences in site-level leadership and other key employees
• Aligning Lean transformation roadmap and strategy with overall corporate strategy and site-level leadership
• Utilizing Continuous Improvement tools, processes, and systems to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost while reducing waste overall
• Leading and coaching CI / Kaizen events through hands-on participation
• Utilizing tools like SMED and material flow to better lay out facilities and warehouses
• Developing training materials and effectively delivering those materials in a team environment to ensure team members are trained on CI concepts and philosophy
• Using data to identify gaps in performance versus best practices; working with local teams and Lean Focus consulting to execute improvement plans
• Understanding and applying financial drivers and key performance indicators
• Documenting best practices and standard work; sharing improvements across regions to leverage results
• Providing overall support and direction to leadership teams regarding CI initiatives
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field
• Minimum 10-15 years of experience leading cultural change to a Lean environment
• Experience working across multiple industries; logistics, warehousing, and distribution experience
• Proven experience utilizing and deploying Lean tools including Strategy Deployment, Value Stream Mapping, KPI development, Transactional Process Improvement, 5S, Standard Work, FMEA, Problem Solving, Kanban, Visual Daily Management, 80/20, etc.
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
• Ability to implement and manage systems that will sustain improvement efforts
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization, including diverse cultures
• Ability to analyze data, draws conclusions, make recommendations, and present findings
• A high level of accuracy with strong attention to detail and quality of work is required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
