Position Overview:

The Land Accounting Manager will play a critical role in coordinating between Land and Accounting teams, ensuring all land-related financial activities are properly documented, reconciled, and reported. This individual will be responsible for managing ownership records, validating financial entries, and overseeing the creation and maintenance of Division of Interest (DOI) decks. Success in this position requires both strategic thinking and deep operational knowledge of land accounting in the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary conduit between Land and Accounting departments to support accurate and timely information exchange.

  • Direct the annual budgeting process for land operations, monitor spending, and provide detailed variance reports and analysis.

  • Oversee the reclassification and validation of financial charges associated with land activities, ensuring alignment with accounting principles.

  • Review and approve DOI records to confirm consistency with leases, ownership documentation, and title records.

  • Manage changes in ownership and ensure updates are accurately reflected in internal systems and documented appropriately.

  • Coordinate lease payment activities and maintain clear records of financial transactions across departments.

  • Ensure the integrity of data within the land management system, focusing on ownership, payment, and interest accuracy.

  • Guide the development and upkeep of owner records, maintaining high standards of consistency across operational platforms.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for efficiency gains and implement best practices in process improvement.

  • Support audit and compliance efforts by maintaining proper documentation and facilitating responsive, complete data reporting.

  • Drive ongoing improvements in data handling, record accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

  • Lead with adaptability, cultivating a supportive and cooperative team culture aligned with organizational goals.

  • Uphold internal policies and ethical standards, setting the tone for team accountability and collaboration.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land accounting or administration within the oil and gas industry, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong expertise in Division of Interest structures, lease records, and budgeting practices.

  • In-depth understanding of oil and gas land operations, particularly around lease administration, division orders, and ownership transitions.

  • Advanced skills in budget creation, financial forecasting, and variance interpretation.

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities, including task prioritization and performance oversight.

  • Keen attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in managing complex financial and ownership data.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal collaboration and external stakeholder engagement.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to distill complex data into meaningful operational insights.

  • Hands-on experience with land data management platforms and sound accounting methodologies.

  • High level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

  • Effective problem-solving abilities and a track record of improving operational integrity through data-driven decision-making.
