Organizational Overview

Founded in 1998 by Leonard A. and Ronald S. Lauder, the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation is dedicated to rapidly accelerating the discovery of drugs to prevent, treat and cure Alzheimer's disease. The ADDF is the only public charity solely focused on funding the development of drugs for Alzheimer's, employing a venture philanthropy model to support research in academia and the biotech industry. The ADDF’s leadership and contributions to the field have played a pivotal role in bringing the first Alzheimer’s PET scan (Amyvid™) and blood test (PrecivityAD™) to market, as well as fueling the current robust and diverse drug pipeline. Through the generosity of its donors, the ADDF has awarded nearly $340 million to fund over 780 Alzheimer's drug discovery programs, biomarker programs and clinical trials in 19 countries. Position Summary

The Communications Manager is primarily responsible for developing and implementing plans which advance and reinforce the organization’s media efforts, improve brand visibility and reputation, support thought leadership initiatives, and drive key messaging. The individual in this role will plan, develop, and execute Communications strategies, with an emphasis on media relations/outreach and social media, which reflect the organization’s overall strategic plan and position the organization as the ‘go-to’ source for Alzheimer’s research. This position manages the communications and media processes – including, but not limited to, planning and strategy, stakeholder engagement, and implementation. The job requires proven communications/media skills, as well as diplomacy, collaboration, and creative leadership in liaising with internal and external constituents.

Placement: This position reports to the Director of Public Relations. This is a full-time, exempt hybrid position based in the tri-state area. Individuals will be asked to be in person at the Midtown Manhattan office 2-3 times a week. L4 – Salary range: $90-100k.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Assist the Director to develop and implement strategic communications and media plans around the ADDF’s key priorities and messaging
  • Nurture and manage relationships with internal teams and external PR agency and consultants
  • Provide regular communications status reports, timelines and delivery calendars, and reports to key stakeholders

Media

  • Work with the Director to identify media/social media opportunities; identify/create story angles/ideas, draft media pitches/query letters, press releases, and other materials
  • Draft media pitches; coordinate/facilitate interviews, help prepare spokespersons/assist with media training
  • Develop and maintain media relationships, build comprehensive media lists, monitor, and track all press coverage
  • Collaborate with and help manage PR agency and a cadre of consultants
  • Monitor media coverage; develop monthly media round ups for staff
  • Generate meaningful media metrics to measure progress towards specific targets; logging/keeping track of monthly media placements and social media highlights

Social Media

  • Draft and schedule social media posts, monitor responses across social platforms, provide social media listening support, identify key audiences and produce outcome reports
  • Maintain visibility among targeted audiences by assisting in stakeholder engagement, managing the organizations social media calendar and handles

Thought-Leadership

  • Assist the Director with planning and execution of ADDF scientific symposiums related project management tasks, including any media planning/outreach, logistical elements, and collateral
  • Collaborate with the ADDF teams around ADDF events

Other

  • Assist with project management responsibilities, including Communications budget, coordinating meetings with key stakeholders, overseeing meeting agenda and minutes
  • Oversee special projects as assigned and performing other related duties

All other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • BA degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required
  • 4-6 years of communications or public relations experience required. Experience with or a solid understanding of communications and media relations preferred
  • Ability to execute key priorities with agility, flexibility and resiliency, manage competing priorities and deadlines and work in the “gray area”
  •  A versatile self-starter, who possesses intellectual curiosity and seeks to understand both the big picture and project details
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across departments; customer centric
  • Background in healthcare or nonprofit communications/public relations preferred
  • Experience working in a healthcare institution/foundation or communications/public relations agency preferred.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. High comfort level writing for marketing, public relations, and other business audiences
  • Knowledge and experience using media management and tracking tools such as Cision, Meltwater preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
  • Will require some evening and weekend work
  • Travel for meetings, conferences, and events required
