Role Overview
Seeking a Capital Markets Trader to support the execution of long-term investment strategies and interest rate derivatives transactions in alignment with the organization's broader financial and risk management goals. This position plays a key role in managing the investment portfolio, supporting strategy development, and refining internal processes to enhance operational efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
* Execute trades that support the long-term investment portfolio, aiming to optimize returns within defined strategies, risk tolerances, and liquidity needs.* Assist in investment reporting and development of portfolio strategies.* Provide secondary support for executing funding and interest rate derivatives transactions.* Continuously improve pre-trade analysis, reporting, and risk frameworks through automation and modern tools.* Build data-driven analytics to support investment decisions and hedge programs.* Collaborate with risk and modeling teams to evaluate prepayment models and suggest enhancements.* Assess mortgage commitment pipelines and offer hedging recommendations based on risk appetite.* Ensure investment strategies comply with regulatory requirements and internal risk policies.* Maintain ongoing communication with internal stakeholders and external market participants to stay informed on market trends and instruments.* Contribute to business resiliency planning, internal control documentation, and regulatory testing efforts.* Deliver presentations and reports for management and external oversight entities.
Performance Expectations
* Lead the pre-purchase analysis and trade execution for long-term investments.* Partner with the Portfolio Manager to ensure the investment portfolio aligns with profitability, liquidity, and compliance targets.* Act as a backup for other capital markets functions including liquidity reporting and debt issuance.* Champion continuous learning and mentor team members in professional growth.* Demonstrate consistent adherence to internal policies and meet all audit and examination standards.* Collaborate on analytical tool use and contribute to best practice discussions in pricing and risk evaluation.* Cultivate a network of external contacts, including broker-dealers and minority- or women-owned firms.* Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely reporting to management and regulatory audiences
Qualifications & Skills
* **Experience:** 3+ years in fixed income trading or a closely related field, preferably with exposure to mortgage-backed securities.* **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline. MBA or CFA designation is preferred.* **Technical Competence:** Strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and familiarity with derivative products (futures, options, swaps).* **Communication:** Capable of conveying complex financial information clearly in both written and oral formats.* **Decision-Making:** Able to make informed, risk-sensitive decisions under pressure and within tight timeframes.* **Other Competencies:** Understanding of asset/liability management and interest rate risk measurement; capacity to perform advanced financial calculations; comfort with independent work and occasional travel.
Work Environment
* Office-based role with potential for one day per week remote work in line with resiliency protocols. * Standard office setting; prolonged screen time and light lifting of office supplies may be required.
