Our client is seeking an early-career Structural Engineer to join our Building Services division based out of our Iowa City, IA office.  This key position is crucial for leading structural design projects and managing client relationships. As a Structural Engineer, you will work under the guidance of the Structural Lead and Building Services Manager, collaborating with a team of senior engineers and project managers to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions.

This position requires a candidate with a strong background in structural engineering design, project management, and client interactions. Your responsibilities will include overseeing structural design projects, coordinating with architects and contractors, and providing mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee structural design projects from concept to completion, including existing building walkdowns and historic rehabilitation.
  • Conduct code reviews, geotechnical sub coordination, and foundation design.
  • Design structural elements such as engineered lumber, structural steel, roofing systems, and masonry.
  • Assist with geotechnical analysis and integration
  • Manage construction site visits,
  • Contractor RFI/ITC assistance
  • Property condition assessments.
  • Provide project management oversight, including progress meetings, client management, and proposal preparation.
  • Review and coordinate structural shop drawings
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of QA-QC standards, proposals, and contracts.

Additional Future Responsibilities:

  • Take on client management roles and contribute to standards and QA-QC committees.
  • Manage full engineering packages and participate in business development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • PE licensure in Iowa, Wisconsin, or both
  • Extensive experience in structural engineering design, project management, and client interactions.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam, and related structural analysis software (RISA, EnerCalc).
  • Strong skills in code review, structural design, and project management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both in the office and on-site.
