GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direction of the Plant Manager, the Assistant Plant Manager (“APM”) is responsible for managing the daily energy delivery process of the plant and provides leadership to the plant O&M department for the safe and efficient operation of generating equipment. The APM manages the daily operation of the facility to ensure that generating requirements, plant efficiency and reliability are maintained in a safe manner and in compliance with all applicable permits, policy and legal requirements. Routinely advises the Plant Manager on O&M issues, provides recommendations for process and / or program improvements, and performs the duties of the Plant Manager during his/her absence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
The APM operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The APM frequently encounters new and varied work situations involving a high degree of complexity, thereby requiring timely communication and collaboration with the Plant Manager and Corporate management staff.
The APM must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents and in compliance with all environmental permits. The APM must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, the management team, and subordinate operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The APM must ensure duties are performed in such a manner as to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer needs are being met.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree, with five years of power plant experience or minimum of 10 years industry-related work experience is required. NERC regulatory knowledge is desirable. Gas turbine experience is highly desirable. At least 6 or more years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel is required.
Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry is desirable, including a history of implementing innovative approaches to problem-solving and improving the technical and business aspects of the facility.
The candidate must have strong leadership, motivational, and communication (oral and written) skills, which includes the ability to effectively communicate with large groups.
