Job Summary:
PSM experience required.The Safety & Environmental Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety and environmentalprograms, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ADEM, EPA and other applicablerequirements. Evaluates the organization’s procedures, facilities and equipment by conductinginspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. This positionensures the organization complies with all current safety and environmental regulations and that allemployees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures as well asrespond appropriately to protect the environment. Collect data and report on all safety/environmentalincidents/events. Assist in corrective actions as needed.Duties/Responsibilities:• Participates in the development and implementation of safety programs such as lockout/tagout,confined space entry, fire protection, PSM and other OSHA safety compliance programs.• Participates in the development and implementation of site Environmental Programs such asISO14001 and ensures compliance.• Advises employees regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of employeesand well as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies includingOSHA and the EPA• Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures• Conducts routine and follow-up environmental, health, safety and hazard inspections in theplant• Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire and smoke incidents, orunknown hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations for improvement• Collects and analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendation forcorrecting unsafe conditions and actions• Provides safety training to all employees and contractors• Participates in the Emergency Response Team member• Other duties as assignedRequired Skills/Abilities:• Ability and experience performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA, ADEM,EPA and other standards.• Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports• Ability to develop, implement and enforce safety programs and protocols• Ability to react calmly to emergency situations• Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions• Ability to foster a safety culture with employees throughout all levels of the organization• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.• Ability to prioritize tasks and follow through to completion• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.• Ability to develop training materials and present to a group.• Understanding of Process Safety Management and or the ability to conduct Process SafetyAnalysis.Education and Experience:• Bachelor’s degree; at least two years related experience or a combination of education andwork experience.• Experience within PSM regulated facilities and conducting PHAs is required.• Emergency Response Team (EMT, Fire Brigade, HazMat, Rope Rescue) experience is desired.
