We are looking for a Packaging Engineer to join our R&D team in Omaha, Nebraska.

As a Packaging Engineer, reporting to the Packaging Manager, you will lead new product development, quality improvement, and cost savings initiatives for the packaging portfolio. With a focus on sustainability, you will work on many different packaging formats. You will support and lead packaging-driven projects and new start-ups/capacity expansion for specific plants. You will support trials and/or start-ups and perform hands-on package testing & prototyping in our state-of-the-art labs and pilot plants. Each engineer owns their space/brands while working with our internal and external partners.

Our R&D facilities are state-of-the-art, including dedicated packaging spaces for ideation, design, and prototyping. Engineers have the ability perform in-house package testing and physical prototyping to bring new innovations to life using our top-of-the-line equipment within our labs and other spaces.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery of base business projects while simultaneously supporting high complexity technical projects.

  • Develop ideas for savings, innovation, and quality improvements that are relevant to the business.

  • Collaborate with business, and technical peers on assigned brand(s), as well as external partners and resources.

  • Independently plan, execute, and analyze plant/pilot plant/lab trials.

  • Present results of technical report to leadership team, both written and oral.

  • Review and develop technical specifications.

  • Utilized as a subject matter expert in selected packaging technology platforms.

  • Establish working relationship with suppliers.

  • Maintain understanding and application of experimental design, performance specs, and CQV design.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the packaging principles and operating systems for the assigned business.

  • Maintain awareness of technical trends and developments in the packaging industry.

  • Lead brainstorming and information gathering for resource planning process.

  • Gain familiarity with fiscal and strategic plans of team.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Packaging, Engineering, or related field.

  • 3+ years work experience in packaging industry, Food or CPG preferred.

  • Experience with packaging materials capabilities and equipment.

  • Understanding of government regulatory requirements in the processing of food.

  • Experience with food science and how food affects packaging.

  • Experience with food safety, sanitary design, and equipment cleaning.

  • Experience with physical and structure package testing procedures.

  • Financial understanding to improve profitability.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions and exposure to allergens.

  • Travel can be up to 40% of the time based on projects but may be less.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs periodically.

  • Ability to stand for sit or stand for extended periods of time.

 

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

This role will typically be in the office 4 days a week. Fridays are typically remote.
