Job Summary:

The R&D Packaging Engineer ensures the development of Packaging required by the North America’s Marketing team. The Packaging Engineer will participate in the launch of new project/product, industrial application and propose optimization of the existing process/packaging. They are a pro-active R&D thought leader who seizes opportunities for improvement. 

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Support cross-functional relationships
    • Support Marketing initiatives
    • Carry out industrial trials
    • Regularly update reports with R&D Packaging Manager
    • Supply samples for internal and external needs.
    • Support supplier compliance, packaging re-engineering and standard pack optimization initiatives 
  • Manage the research, development and implementation of packaging process
    • Look for new packaging and processes
    • Develop the packaging to meet the needs of the project and suppliers
    • Calculate the cost and ROI
    • Lead packaging qualifications and supplier audits
    • Identify non-compliant supplier packaging
  • Maintain production awareness and compatibility
    • Create optimized pallet patterns.
    • Utilize knowledge to aid Production team
    • Assist in the resolution of quality issues and customer’s complaints.
  • Lead Industrialization trials
    • Organize and validate logistic trials.
    • Write trial protocol and report.
    • Conduct tests related to the operation of plant equipment and processes. 
  • Manage lab and R&D equipment
    • Make sure that the R&D equipment is well maintained.
    • Oversee and resolve day-to-day packaging and processing equipment problems.
  • All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science / Engineering or related field required

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of Packaging engineer experience required. Strong preference for experience with plastics.
  • Experience in a plant or manufacturing environment is preferred. 
  • Experience in the food industry working on packaging or in the packaging industry preferred
