Position Title: Head of Packaging & Quality

Reports To: General Manager

Summary

The Head of Packaging & Quality will lead the Package Engineering, Sustainability and Quality teams, along with the Dallas Testing lab activities for FusionPKG (full pack and turnkey division of Aptar Group in NA) to ensure successful cosmetic customer brand launches into the market and to provide valued quality to the company’s cosmetic partners. The Head of Packaging & Quality will provide uncompromising attention to detail, solving and managing quality issues for packaging and beauty lab production orders. Quality issues are those problems that are attributed to a product order that has already been verified during production and has not met the agreed-upon quality requirements set by either the factory, FusionPKG, or the customer.

 

Position Relationships

This position reports to the General Manager and manages the US Packaging Engineer and Quality staff as well as the Aptar Mexico quality engineer. This role works primarily and directly with the FusionPKG design and development, sales, project managers, China and Mexico engineering, Mexico and China quality, and account manager teams to identify the root cause of any production quality issue and help the factory, FusionPKG, and the customer bring to market high-quality products. This role will ensure testing and evaluation of packaging to provide for on-time/on-quality product launches. This role will also interface with customers to educate, address questions and resolve issues relevant to their projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Responsible for the swift improvement of quality issues on production orders for package and formula orders

· Responsible for providing input on FMEA's

· Responsible for developing strategic planning, direction, and control of Engineers and QA/QC activities

· Support Fusion Sales by meeting with Fusion customer base to support new business opportunities, maintain existing business – demonstrating Fusion Total Quality approach to doing business

· Mentor cross functional team members (Sales, AM’s PM’s) for quality implementation of customer product launches

· Direct Product Development Processes and approvals: Design, MOF, Tooling Mods, Validation, PQP, QA Specs, ECN’s, Customer Evaluations/Issues, PPS, Intellectual Property (IP)

· Develop and implement continual quality process improvements annually

· Develop, coach, and mentor the team to excellence

· Provides leadership for documented and repeatable processes in quality

· Support FusionPKG Sales by meeting with our customer base to support quality issues

· Ensure the optimal team resources to meet package and formula product development and quality issue requirements

· Resolves customer issues by communicating directly with customers

· Leads or participates in other assigned projects

 

Job Requirements

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in quality, packaging engineering, or other related fields from an accredited college or university

· Minimum of 15 years in a technical packaging support position in cosmetics, beauty packaging or related CPG environment with at least 7 years in a leadership role

· Direct experience launching new cosmetic products in the market as a brand owner or packaging supplier to the industry

· Intermediate experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

· Ability to use or learn Salesforce.com software

· Ability to travel domestically and internationally for quality issues

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment and physical demands are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in an office setting and when at an external partner’s factory facility could be higher but within acceptable working conditions.

The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position and regularly use the computer keyboard and mouse and will view the computer monitor frequently. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
