General Summary: Lead development, commercialization, and optimization of all packaging formats required to support Company strategic and growth objectives. Identify packaging solutions to drive portfolio growth through design, material selection, and equipment interface. Partner with cross functional teams including manufacturing, commercialization, regulatory, and procurement to drive innovation and sustainability for current and new platforms. This position oversees and provides training, leadership and technical direction to packaging engineers and cross-functional partners.
 

Essential Functions:

·         Manage packaging engineering team through the packaging development process, including packaging designs, prototyping, specifications, performance testing and equipment interface.

·         Support cross-functional commercialization product teams in delivering new products to market.

·         Liaison with international markets in developing and commercializing regional products including design inputs, supplier validation and sustainability. 

·         Work closely with cross-functional groups to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.

·         Direct the search for new material technology solutions for optimization of packaging to drive sustainability, performance, and savings across all facilities.

·         Support operations and quality in troubleshooting packaging line performance issues involving current and new packaging components.

·         Identify and implement manufacturing focused cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials and design, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.

·         Partner with procurement and quality in identifying, evaluating, and approving new and alternate packaging material suppliers.

·         Work with equipment engineering and manufacturing groups to ensure that the packaging designs and material selections are optimized for automation, efficiency, and reliability.

·         Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training engineers including planning, assigning, managing workload, and evaluating team performance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

·         Technical expertise in packaging materials, processes, and automated equipment interface.

·          Cross –functional project leadership

·          Good oral and written communication skills across all levels

·          Problem solving and decision-making skills are necessary.

·          Develop and mentor engineering staff.

Education/Experience:

·        Bachelor's Degree in a materials program required; Bachelor's Degree in Packaging strongly preferred

·         10+ years engineering management and packaging materials experience in food, dairy and CPG

·         Institute of Packaging Certification

·         6 years of managing people
