Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC/Plumber Mechanic to join our team as a Maintenance Senior Journeyman. This is a full-time position based in New Castle, Delaware, offering a competitive salary, bonus potential, and comprehensive benefits. As an expert craftsman in the HVAC/plumbing field, you will be responsible for the installation, inspection, repair, maintenance, and operation of machinery and mechanical equipment associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. You will troubleshoot complex issues, provide expert-level maintenance support, and may be responsible for directing and inspecting the work of assigned personnel. This position requires a proactive individual with strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, repair, maintain, and operate machinery and mechanical equipment related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Provide expert-level maintenance support in the HVAC/plumbing field.
- Troubleshoot the most complex HVAC and plumbing problems and issues.
- Provide primary expertise on projects and tasks, including scope and project budgeting.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Respond to emergencies (24/7 availability) at any Authority location.
- Potentially direct and inspect the work of assigned personnel.
- Develop and maintain various HVAC/plumbing preventative maintenance programs and protocols for Authority assets, equipment, and facilities.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Read work orders and translate them into effective work plans.
- Adhere to established safety practices to protect yourself, co-workers, and the public, and to prevent damage to property.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert-level knowledge of the HVAC or plumbing field.
- Full understanding of relevant Authority policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of all relevant federal, state, and Authority safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of state laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on public roadways.
- Compliance with all requirements of the Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Program at all times.
- Ability to lead work crews, coach employees, and provide on-the-job training.
- Demonstrated competency through external accreditation and certification in addition to licensing.
- Ability to work independently on complex HVAC or plumbing system diagnosis and repair.
- Knowledge of procurement procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Ability to read work orders and translate them to work plans.
- Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds at least 20 yards.
- Must be capable of performing work around hazardous situations such as moving heavy equipment, in and around equipment, at heights, on steep grades, and ladders and uneven surfaces.
- Must be capable of wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be capable of performing repetitive motions such as grasping, reaching, bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of the facility.
- Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions and/or emergency conditions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills (including listening skills).
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to providing the highest level of customer service and professionalism.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/equivalent or equivalent related years of experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in the commercial HVAC/plumbing field; ten (10) years preferred.
- Vocational training preferred, including successful completion of a federally-approved plumbing/HVACR apprenticeship program.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant License Required.
- Class A Engineer License Preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
- Must possess a journeyperson certificate or a master electrician license, in good standing, issued by a state, US territory, or District of Columbia licensure authority.
- Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates are subject to a pre-employment physical, drug test, and background investigation.
- All employees are required to have direct deposit with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program.
- Employees holding a valid CDL must be able to obtain and keep current a Medical Examiner’s Certificate and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
- Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of the facility.
