Maintenance Superintendent

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Superintendent will lead the Maintenance Department Supervisors and report directly to the Plant Engineer. The role is essential for maintaining the health of plant assets through an effective maintenance program. Success in this position relies heavily on cross-functional teamwork with personnel from operations, maintenance, food safety, and safety on plant initiatives and continuous improvement projects.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Supervision and Planning: Oversee plant maintenance personnel, managing all work requirements related to breakdowns, preventative maintenance, predictive technologies, projects, and day-to-day work orders. Ensure compliance with all internal and external maintenance regulations.

  • Operational Coordination: Respond promptly to operational maintenance concerns, coordinating with the operations department to minimize production interruptions through efficient maintenance and repair work.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of management, operations, and maintenance in line with company policies, procedures, and property loss programs.

  • Quality Control: Supervise maintenance and project work carried out by Maintenance personnel and contractors, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to deadlines through rigorous follow-ups.

  • Budget Management: Plan and control expenditures in alignment with the department's operating budget.

  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain and enforce safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A diploma or degree in mechanical or engineering technology, with an Electrician license (or equivalent) considered an asset.

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility, preferably in a fast-paced, unionized environment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of continuous process manufacturing facilities and strong experience with equipment overhauls, machining, pneumatics, hydraulics, and piping repairs. Experience with maintenance of processing equipment and driving Preventative Maintenance Systems is highly desirable.

  • Flexibility: Willingness and flexibility to work scheduled shifts, including afternoons and weekends.

  • Skills: Excellent planning, analytical, and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities. Proficiency in working within a team environment and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Windows and the MS Office suite.
