Assistant Maintenance Superintendent

As an Assistant Maintenance Superintendent (3rd), you will assist in overseeing and coordinating the maintenance operations within the organization. This role ensures the smooth operation and maintenance of equipment, machinery, and facilities. Working closely with the Maintenance Superintendent, you will manage a team of maintenance staff, plan and execute maintenance activities, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

This position involves supervising 1st Line Managers and Line Leaders in a meat processing environment, ensuring established daily production and quality targets are achieved. The Assistant Superintendent will utilize their skills, experience, and decision-making abilities to ensure product through the department meets company, customer, and government specifications.

Supervision and Coordination:

  • Assist the Maintenance Superintendent in supervising the maintenance team, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities and assign tasks to team members.
  • Monitor the progress of maintenance tasks and provide guidance as needed.

Maintenance Planning and Execution:

  • Help develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Coordinate and oversee repairs, installations, and maintenance projects.
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is completed efficiently, on time, and within budget.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to maintenance operations.

Inventory and Equipment Management:

  • Assist in managing the inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure that all maintenance equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
  • Order replacement parts and supplies as needed.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment maintenance logs, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare and submit reports on maintenance activities, costs, and performance metrics.
  • Assist in developing and updating maintenance procedures and manuals.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with other departments to address maintenance needs and coordinate projects.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, and external contractors.
  • Participate in meetings and provide input on maintenance-related issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field is preferred. A high school diploma will be considered with additional years of experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in maintenance.
  • Experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment and with processing equipment is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in maintenance management software and tools.
  • Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

This job operates in both office and plant environments. It may require working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, and extreme temperatures. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work and being on-call for emergencies.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
