Job Title: Estimating Department Manager
Must have 10 years working as a Heavy Civil Estimator and leadership experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead the Estimating Department, aligning bids and projects with organizational capabilities.
- Manage estimators and assistants through all bid preparation phases, including material take-offs, production rates, subcontractor quotes, and cost analysis (material, labor, overhead).
- Coordinate weekly with team and management to ensure bids align with operational goals, meet deadlines, and include site visits, prebid meetings, and bid deliveries.
- Review and approve bids before submission.
- Set short- and long-term objectives, plans, and policies, subject to Executive Management approval.
- Lead preconstruction team, including performance reviews, training, and development to deliver high-quality bids and secure contracts.
- Analyze reports, drawings, blueprints, and geological data to plan and design projects.
- Prepare or oversee reports, specifications, schedules, environmental studies, and project designs.
- Pursue new business opportunities to expand client base through client meetings and marketing efforts.
- Inspect construction sites to monitor progress, performance, labor, equipment, and methods to inform future estimates.
- Calculate project costs and assess feasibility based on data analysis.
- Represent the company with key stakeholders, including clients, officials, vendors, and the public.
- Supervise subordinate supervisors and employees in the Estimating Department, managing hiring, training, work assignments, performance appraisals, and issue resolution in line with company policies and laws.
- Set team goals to meet corporate close percentage and gross margin expectations.
- Provide oversight and performance management for the Estimating Department.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of industry trends and their impact on the company’s business.
Qualifications, Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related certificate.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and/or equivalent training.
- Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, takeoff software, spreadsheets, project management software, and other company tools.
- Strong grasp of mathematical concepts, including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry, with the ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- State of Florida General Contractor’s License and/or Underground Utility Excavation License preferred but not required.
