Refrigeration Engineer

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect refrigeration equipment to ensure operation within specified parameters.
  • Apply basic knowledge of electrical systems and components.
  • Conduct daily inspections of high- and low-pressure boilers.
  • Use a handheld temperature probe to verify computer readings at least once per shift/day.
  • Record readings during daily rounds and assist with special projects as needed.
  • Repair or replace electrical components as required.
  • Perform or assist with preventive maintenance (PM) tasks following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and M-Pulse printouts.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough maintenance record-keeping, including both digital and electronic systems.
  • Foster good morale and maintain a positive attitude among hourly associates.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To succeed in this role, individuals must meet the following requirements:

  • Ability to concentrate while performing tasks over extended periods.
  • Proven ability to facilitate change and manage conflict effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical and refrigeration systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic, and plant equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Refrigeration knowledge and/or ammonia certification preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Capability to communicate clearly with employees and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in basic math skills.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle diverse variables in challenging situations.
  • Capability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Use hands to handle, feel, and manipulate objects.
  • Reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or lift items.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and distinguish colors for electrical wiring.
  • Stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods.
  • Work in refrigerated or adverse temperature environments.
  • Lift up to 50-70 lbs. unassisted.
  • Tolerate exposure to high-pitched electrical noise and temperatures exceeding 100°F.
