Our client, a leading construction firm, is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager / Senior Accountant to oversee the firm’s accounting operations on a full-time basis.  The main responsibilities will be to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and strong internal controls. Ideal candidates will have experience managing key functions including general ledger, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, fixed assets and project accounting within Deltek accounting software. Strong candidates will bring technical expertise along with leadership skills to improve processes, mentor team members and support the organization’s continued growth.  This is a hybrid opportunity and the annual salary range is $115,000 – 140,000.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Record and review revenue, expense, and payroll entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities
  • Ensure payroll-related journal entries are recorded accurately and on time
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and review monthly financial results, identifying and analyzing variances.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare financial statements and reporting packages for senior leadership.
  • Assist with tax preparation and coordinate with external bankers and auditors as needed.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of all accounting reports and processes.
  • Oversee collections activities and ensure timely application of payments.
  • Manage accounts payable operations, including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, payment execution and corporate credit card administration.
  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations.
  • Lead, mentor and support the development of accounts payable and collections staff.
  • Supervise accounts payable and collections team members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and recommend solutions to the Director of Finance.
  • Support revenue recognition and billing processes within Deltek accounting software.
  • Improve system utilization through enhanced reporting, workflow optimization and data accuracy.
  • Provide coverage during staff absences and perform special accounting projects requiring professional judgment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of accounting experience in senior or supervisory role; experience in engineering or professional services firms preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, project accounting, payroll and general ledger operations.
  • Expertise in core accounting functions, including account reconciliations, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll entries.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Deltek (required).
  • Experience with Deltek, project-based accounting system is required
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment and work independently.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and ownership of work.
  • Ability to work proactively, take initiative and apply professional judgment to solve complex problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
  • Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
