Director, Investments | Alternative Investment Management

Ascension Search Partners has been engaged by an established middle-market investment firm with multiple billions in AUM to identify an experienced Director, Investments to join its investment team.

The firm invests across both liquid and illiquid opportunities, with a greater weighting toward liquid investments, and is seeking an accomplished principal investor capable of serving as the deal quarterback across the full investment lifecycle.

This individual will assume senior-level ownership for investments from idea generation and fundamental underwriting through Investment Committee presentation, execution, portfolio monitoring and ultimate realization.

Key responsibilities include:

• Independently sourcing and developing investment ideas
• Leading fundamental underwriting and investment analysis
• Serving as the senior investment owner/deal quarterback
• Evaluating relative value across securities and the capital structure
• Leading liquid investments while evaluating selective private and illiquid opportunities
• Developing and defending investment recommendations before the Investment Committee
• Directing diligence and coordinating internal and external resources
• Maintaining ownership of the investment thesis following deployment of capital
• Monitoring risk/reward and recommending position sizing, changes and exits
• Leading and developing junior investment professionals

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an established Director, Principal or equivalent senior investment professional with approximately 12–18+ years of progressive investment experience and a meaningful track record investing principal capital.

Successful candidates will bring deep fundamental investment capabilities, significant liquid-market experience, exposure to private or illiquid investments, sophisticated understanding of capital structures and relative value, and a demonstrated history of independently quarterbacking investments.

This role requires an investor who has already developed the judgment, credibility and ownership mentality expected at the Director level.

Relevant backgrounds may include alternative asset management, opportunistic or special situations investing, fundamental credit, multi-strategy investing, distressed/stressed strategies, public/private crossover investing or comparable principal investment platforms.
