CooperDouglas is partnering with a publicly traded REIT with a national real estate portfolio to identify a Vice President of Property Accounting. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who has built and standardized property accounting functions . The VP will lead a team of approximately fifteen professionals, oversee all accounting and financial reporting for a significant property portfolio, and play a central role in driving process maturity across a growing platform.
Responsibilities
- Build, standardize, and document property accounting processes across a multi-office team
- Direct the month-end close and delivery of accurate, timely financial statements across the portfolio
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of property accounting professionals
- Oversee CAM setup, reconciliations, and tenant billings in partnership with Property Management and Legal
- Interpret complex lease language related to recoveries, escalations, reimbursements, and rent structures
- Review and approve journal entries, balance sheet schedules, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and communicate key financial drivers to senior leadership
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX requirements, and internal controls
- Partner effectively across functions and with executive leadership in a matrixed environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

10+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 5 years in property accounting

CPA highly desired
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Demonstrated track record of building or transforming property accounting functions
- Strong proficiency in Yardi or comparable real estate accounting platforms
- Advanced knowledge of CAM reconciliations and commercial lease interpretation
- REIT, real estate, or property management background required
