CooperDouglas is partnering with a $10B distribution/manufacturing company with a people‑first culture in seeking a high‑impact Controller to lead the accounting function for a large, integrated business unit. This leader will own the full controllership scope and guide an experienced team through ongoing growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day‑to‑day and monthly accounting operations for the business unit, including A/R, A/P, inventory, and general ledger.
- Oversee and continuously improve month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Present accurate and timely branch and business unit financial statements and partner with FP&A/finance to explain budget‑to‑actual variances and key performance drivers.
- Lead accounting support for distribution, manufacturing, and inventory activities, ensuring robust controls and visibility across the network.
- Lead a strong, largely self‑sufficient team of 30+ in a division known for its long‑standing, people‑centric culture and collaborative environment.
- Hire, develop, mentor, and retain a high‑performing, engaged team; foster a supportive environment where people feel heard, coached, and able to grow.
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls that meet public company and SOX standards as the company continues to mature its control environment.
- Partner with technical accounting and corporate teams on complex areas (revenue recognition, inventory, leases, business combinations, etc.) and on the adoption of new accounting guidance.
- Collaborate with integration teams to bring additional acquisitions onto the primary ERP platforms and help complete the broader enterprise integration.
- Implement and reinforce corporate accounting policies and procedures, driving alignment and consistency across business units while respecting the legacy culture and strengths of the local team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Big 4 or large regional public accounting experience is required.
- Active CPA license.
- At least 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including a mix of public accounting.
- Public company experience is a big plus.
- Prior experience as a Controller, Regional, Operating, Business Unit Controller or equivalent in a business with at least $500M in revenue.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven self‑starter who manages projects end‑to‑end and delivers results in fast‑moving, change‑oriented environments.
- Background in distribution, manufacturing, and inventory‑heavy businesses.

Compensation: $225,000 - 275,000 + bonus + LTI
