PCB Design and Test Technician or Engineer
Location: Champaign, IL
Reports To: Engineering Manager
 
Position Summary:

PCB Design and Test Technician/Engineer to support the development, layout, testing, and troubleshooting of printed circuit boards used in our electronic products. This role will work closely with Electrical Engineers and product development teams to ensure functional and manufacturable PCB designs.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and layout PCBs using tools such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCad, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Generate and manage design documentation including schematics, Gerber files, BOMs, and assembly drawings.
  • Assist in or lead the prototyping, assembly, and testing of PCBs for new product development and design verification.
  • Perform electrical testing, signal integrity analysis, and troubleshooting of assembled boards using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
  • Support design validation and failure analysis processes, including root cause investigation and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and procurement.
  • Work with external vendors and PCB manufacturers to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications:

Must be currently and indefinitely eligible to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship

Technician Level:

  • Highschool diploma and minimum 5 years of PCB testing or assembly in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • OR - Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field. With 2+ years of experience in PCB testing or assembly in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment.

Engineer Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in PCB design, layout, and testing.
  • Proficiency in PCB CAD tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • Experience with EMC, DFM/DFT considerations, and compliance testing is a plus.

 Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with firmware/hardware integration.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-2221, IPC-A-600/610).
  • Familiarity with embedded systems or microcontrollers.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
