Athletic Trainer

Location: Lansing, MI

Salary: 75k - 120k (depending on experience/may vary)

Length: Long-Term, Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Successful completion of all field work placements.
  • Demonstrated competency in physical therapy principles/techniques.  
  • Field experience in athletic training.
  • Treats patients according to the assessment results and treatment plan established by the physical therapist.
  • Monitors patient performance and response to treatment and modifies program as indicated.
  • Documents all necessary information in the patient's medical record.
  • Educates/trains patients and families regarding disease/injury, treatment plan, self-help measures, preventive care, and treatment techniques.
  • Educates other departments and the public in the form of in-services, lectures or classes.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance activities as assigned.
  • Notifies physical therapist of patient's response to treatment.
  • Provides athletic training services (taping, first aid, exercise, consultation and physician referral) to area schools and in outpatient clinics.
  • Assists with marketing of sports medicine services to area school administrators, coaches, and physicians.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports hospital's mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Assists with other department needs such as scheduling, answering the telephone, etc.
  • Assists other staff with treatments as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Abilities:
  • Able to move independently throughout 
  • Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment
  • Sufficient strength and stability to perform passive, active or resistive exercise.  
  • Ability to travel independently within the clinical and area high schools.
  • Ability to perform manual therapy techniques and operate treatment/assessment equipment.
  • Fine motor skills to apply taping, braces, etc.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited bachelor's level or higher.
  • Athletic Training program / Certified in the state of Michigan.
