Nursing Manager – Labor & Delivery
Day Shift
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Nursing Manager to lead and oversee a Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting. This position provides leadership for all aspects of patient care, ensuring clinical operations, staffing, and quality standards are consistently maintained. The manager is accountable for daily workflow, staff performance, and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care in alignment with organizational standards and professional nursing practices.
Department Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain standards of care and nursing practices within the unit.
Develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement initiatives to support excellent patient outcomes.
Evaluate patient care and satisfaction through rounds, feedback, and direct observation, addressing concerns promptly.
Serve as a patient advocate to address ethical, legal, and cultural considerations.
Track staff retention and turnover, implementing strategies to maintain a stable and engaged workforce.
Maintain clinical competence through hands-on patient care and participation across all shifts.
Mentor, coach, and develop nursing staff, ensuring professional growth and adherence to policies.
Collaborate with clinical educators and specialists to design and deliver education programs for all staff levels.
Address and resolve staff grievances, ensuring fair and consistent resolution practices.
Leadership Requirements:
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, engagement, and collaboration with the Labor & Delivery leadership team and other hospital departments.
Shares responsibility for staffing, quality of care, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
Reports to senior leadership while working closely with other managers and clinical supervisors to ensure effective departmental operations.
Key Priorities:
Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Monitor and improve quality metrics, collaborating with nursing staff to sustain high standards of care.
Support the adoption of evidence-based practices within the unit.
Recruit, interview, and hire qualified nursing staff, including experienced registered nurses and travelers.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution, or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with a commitment to obtain BSN within two years.
Active Registered Nurse license in the relevant state of employment.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing or related healthcare field.
At least 1 year of first-line management experience.
