I.               Overview of Tasks and Responsibilities

 

The Screening Counselor in the Driver Intervention Program (DIP) is responsible for making the appropriate recommendation for clients based on individual face-to-face screening, scores from screening instruments, small group discussions, information from court, and consultation with Coordinator.

 

II.              Administrative Responsibility and Authority

 

A.             Provides an initial 45-minute individual screening for each assigned client during which appropriate information will be gathered to assist in determining the need for further assessment.

 

B.              Responsible for interpreting the DAST, Audit and the MAST scores following established procedure. 

 

C.             Provides five hours of small group counseling services to assigned clients. 

 

D.             Encourages client involvement to supplement the educational DIP experience in helping the client understand AOD concepts. 

 

E.              Provides each client with an individualized 45-minute exit interview to review screening results and make recommendations based on “Criteria for Referral”. 

 

F.              Maintains familiarity with all forms contained in the client chart and client folder.

 

G.             Intervenes during incidents of disruptive behaviors.

 

H.             Responds to crises effectively as outlined in the DIP Procedures, to include, but not limited to:  client injury, illness, and/or death. 

 

I.                Directly communicates client issues, facility issues, program concerns, and security issues to the DIP Coordinator.

 

J.              Completes incident reports and/or progress notes documenting any and all remarkable circumstances, i.e., illness, accident, facility problems, client termination, and serious rule infraction. 

 

K.              Completes all counseling paperwork to include:

 

1.              DIP Screening Form

2.              Court Report Form

3.              Release of Information Form

4.              Incident Report

5.              Small Group Discussion/Progress Notes

 

L.               Follows and enforces agency Policies and Procedures as well as Policies and Procedures specific to DIP, i.e., Code of Ethics, Procedure for DIP Safety and Security, Procedure for Client Dismissal, and Procedure for Scheduling & Call-offs.

 

M.            Adheres to established program schedule and agenda.

 

N.             Consults with the Coordinator and/or the Director regarding clinical issues of concern.

 

O.             Uses Paylocity to clock in and out to reflect accurate hours worked. 

 

P.              Observes Federal Confidentiality Regulations.

 

Q.             Follow the “Procedure for Scheduling & Call-offs” if unable to work assigned schedule.

 

R.              Maintains current knowledge of DUI laws and related legislation.

 

III.             Interpersonal Competencies

 

A.             Seeks resources and direction when necessary.

 

B.              Works collaboratively with other CommQuest staff and departments to ensure that the needs of the Agency and clients are met.

 

C.             Supports the Agency’s mission of service to those impacted by chemical dependency

 

D.             Promptly reports any critical situations.

 

E.              Utilizes supervision, peer input, and ongoing training/education to improve professional competencies, and maintain required licensing/credentialing.

 

F.              Demonstrates honest and respectful communication with both co-workers and clients in order to optimize a trauma informed care environment which includes emotional, psychological, and physical safety.

 

IV.            Global Competencies

 

A.             Demonstrates honest and respectful communication with both co-workers and clients in order to optimize a trauma informed care environment which includes emotional, psychological, and physical safety.

 

B.              Demonstrates knowledge of basic infection control procedures as evidenced in post-test score.

 

C.             Demonstrates competency in responding during agency fire drills, as evidenced in the written reports of actual fire drills or actual fires.

 

D.             Demonstrates understanding of agency disaster protocols.

 

V.             Minimum Qualifications

 

 

A.             Chemical Dependency Counselor I, II, or III licensed by the State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, and/or

 

B.              Registered Candidates who are supervised by an individual qualified to be an alcohol and drug addiction services supervisor pursuant to this rule, and/or

 

C.             Counselor Trainee practicing under the supervision of a professional clinical counselor whose declaration statement includes substance abuse assessment and counseling
