Sales Representative

Our client is seeking a motivated Sales Representative to drive growth across Class 1, Short Line, Transit, and Railroad Contractors. This role blends travel, customer engagement, and office responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as the primary contact for orders, invoicing, and support.

  • Travel ~2 weeks per month to meet clients and promote products.

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities while monitoring market trends and competitor activity.

  • Support company participation in trade shows and events.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with products and maintain technical knowledge to assist customers effectively.

  • Utilize Microsoft Office and CRM software to manage reporting and customer data efficiently.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Mechanical aptitude; willing to perform or learn small engine repair.

  • Motivated, energetic, and creative team player.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

Job Title: National Sales Representative

Position Overview

Hougen Manufacturing is seeking a driven and entrepreneurial National Sales Representative to lead sales efforts across the U.S. Nationwide while maintaining a strong local presence near our Swartz Creek, Michigan facility. This role is ideal for a self-motivated individual with a mechanical aptitude and a passion for delivering customized hole-making solutions for the metal fabrication, manufacturing, construction, and structural steel industries.

The National Sales Representative will also collaborate closely with our manufacturer representatives who support distributors selling Hougen products, ensuring alignment of strategies and execution across the sales channel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage national sales strategies to grow market share across the U.S.
  • Maintain strong local engagement with Michigan-based clients and plant operations.
  • Work in partnership with our rep agencies to support distributors carrying Hougen’s product lines.
  • Demonstrate deep mechanical understanding of customized hole-making solutions for the metal fabrication, manufacturing, construction, and structural steel industries.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems for reporting, forecasting, and CRM management.
  • Prepare detailed sales reports, territory performance metrics, and client feedback summaries.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless customer experience from inquiry to delivery.
  • Attend trade shows, industry events, and client meetings nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in national or regional sales, with a strong track record in the industrial tool market.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand technical product applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Highly self-motivated with a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the U.S. (50–60%) and maintain local plant engagement.
  • Reside within commuting distance of Swartz Creek, Michigan.

Preferred Traits

  • Background in fabrication, structural steel, construction, or industrial distribution.
  • Experience with CRM platforms and data-driven sales reporting.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
