 Job Description: The Fire Protection Engineer will serve as the fire protection technical expert, providing consultation on system design, design bases, and interfacing with other engineering disciplines. Apply knowledge, experience and understanding of theories, principles and practical concepts related to mechanical engineering. Provide specialized engineering technical support and design of fire suppression, controls, alarm systems, pumps, and other mechanical systems. Provide specialized fire protection technical support; evaluations and verification/certification of fire protection systems.
  
 Requirements and Qualifications:  
  - 
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering field.
- 
Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
- 
3+ years of technical experience in the design and installation of fire protection systems preferred
- 
Experience in fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layout utilizing hydraulic calculation programs and knowledge of NFPA codes and standards.
- Ability to conduct/oversee technical studies and technical reviews.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret regulations, standards and technical/non-technical reports (both internal/external).
- Ability to clearly, concisely, and effectively (orally and in writing) communicate at all levels of the organization on relevant issues affecting the organization. 
- Ability to develop practical/pragmatic implementation strategies for complex and/or abstract issues. 
- Ability to write technically detailed and comprehensive procedures, reports, and correspondence in a format and manner that can be clearly understood.
- Ability to evaluate, learn, and/or utilize routine and specialized computer software or other programs for writing and submitting reports and procedures, conducting investigations/studies/ calculations, action item tracking/resolution, development/implementation of training programs, and other systems to improve and foster regulatory compliance and risk reduction. 
- Ability to understand and apply mathematical and statistical concepts/calculations/models. Ability to prepare and give presentations pertaining to areas of responsibility.
- Additional functional-related knowledge/training will be obtained on-the-job. Additional specialized knowledge that may be needed will be obtained through outsourced training courses/providers having the expertise to provide the requisite knowledge required. Computer software usage may include Microsoft Office, Visium/KMS, RMP Comp, Pool fire software, RV calculation software, PHA/LOPA software, etc.
 Duties and Responsibilities: 
  - 
Fire protection systems: Proficient in design of Wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression systems. Fire water supply infrastructure including fire water storage tanks, fire pumps, underground and above ground distribution piping and associated appurtenances. Outdoor fire suppression systems including monitors, spray systems, and exposure protection systems. Addressable and non-addressable voice evacuation fire alarm systems including initiation devices, supervision devices, and audible and visual notification appliances. Releasing systems for pre-action, foam/water, and clean agent systems.

Building and life safety requirements: Building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.

Cost Control: Assist in managing costs as measured by Monthly Management Reports Analysis of cost deviations and root causes; initiation of cost efficiencies; identification of inefficiencies and recommendations to correct; analyze budget trends; develop and recommend budget requirements.

Safety:  Maintain a safe and healthy workplace for all employees in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Assure compliance with all company safety, health, and security programs and practices. Provide management and leadership timely and thorough reporting of all incidents to ensure all incidents are investigated properly. Take personal responsibility and ownership for safety, including bringing the attitude that “I am individually responsible for safety” to the job each and every day.

THM: Promote cleanliness and order through implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant like new condition.
-  Analyze hazards: Determine the extent of fire protection needed per codes and project requirements.
- 
Project design: Develop documents for fire water, fire and gas systems, fire extinguishers and other fire protection.
- 
Fire protection calculations:  Review, perform and explain to others; including the hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations..
- 
Understand and interpret Fire Safety codes and standards: Review new designs and evaluate existing fire protection systems.
- 
Engineering projects: Support and oversee as needed by Central Engineering
- 
Preventative Maintenance and Testing standards:  develop and implement fire protection systems.
- 
Monitor annual fire protection equipment inspection and testing reports: Track recommendations and provide guidance to sites to make necessary repairs.
- 
Fire preplans: Develop or enhance, particularly tank firefighting strategies.
- 
Fire response plan: Assist in developing by analyzing water and foam supplies.
- 
Development and training: Fire protection systems for Site and Corporate EHS personnel
- 
Process Safety initiatives: Participation in HAZOPs
- 
Design: Review of plans and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
