\n\nThe Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate and competitive cost, time, and labor estimates. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, clients, and subcontractors throughout all stages of project development.
\n\nAnalyze blueprints, specifications, and documents to prepare detailed time, material, and labor estimates.
\nEvaluate cost-effectiveness of proposed projects and track actual costs against estimates during execution.
\nConduct special studies to establish standard costs and identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements.
\nCollaborate with engineers, owners, and subcontractors to discuss changes, value engineering options, and adjustments to estimates.
\nConsult with clients, vendors, and field teams to clarify project details and resolve cost-related concerns.
\nReview material and labor requirements, preparing comprehensive itemized lists for bidding and project planning.
\nPrepare estimates used for management decision-making—including scheduling, planning, vendor selection, and bid strategies.
\nParticipate in site visits before and during construction to validate field conditions.
\nContribute to marketing and business development efforts by preparing professional, competitive proposals.
\nAttend weekly management meetings to review workload, bid strategy, and ongoing estimates.
\nEnsure compliance with company safety policies and promote a safety-first culture across all estimating activities.
\nPerform additional related duties as required.
\n5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or water/wastewater construction.
\nStrong background in mathematics, geometry, blueprint reading, and construction technology.
\nProficiency in evaluating project data and applying accurate cost and productivity factors.
\nExceptional organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
\nSkilled in preparing clear, well-presented, and competitive bid proposals.
\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.
\nStrong interpersonal abilities with a professional demeanor when interfacing with clients, owners, and subcontractors.
\nKnowledge of construction equipment, government regulations, and cost control principles.
\nProficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and common estimating software.
\nDemonstrates integrity, confidentiality, and a strong commitment to company values.
\nMust possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record.
\nBachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering required.
\nEquivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
