Global Director Procurement

 

INDUSTRY: Medical Equipment Manufacturing

REPORTING: Reports to Chief Operating Officer (COO), 10 Direct Reports (Buyer/planners, commodity managers)

JOB LOCATION: Remote/Hybrid - US based

 

Overview and Key Responsibilities

 

The Global Director of Procurement will be responsible for strategic procurement leadership and materials management. In addition to the strategic portion of their role, they will also lead contract negotiation, supply base consolidation, and other tactical processes within the Supply Chain organization. The right candidate will have experience with optimizing processes through Lean tool utilization.

 

·       Develop and execute global procurement strategy aligned with the company's overall objectives

·       Provide leadership in procurement processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards and regulations

·       Foster a culture of continuous improvement while driving innovation and optimization in procurement methodologies

·       Ownership of materials strategy that maximizes OTD while driving working capital improvements through reduced inventory and improved payment terms

·       Leverage a deep understanding of materials management principles, including the implementation and optimization of Kanban systems, safety stock management, and re-order point strategies

·       Oversee the establishment and maintenance of robust inventory control measures to ensure timely availability of materials for production needs

·       Strong partnership with operations leaders to establish strong process for made assemblies and Finished Goods inventories

·       Streamline procurement workflows to enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize costs without compromising quality

·       Engage in acquisition integration to understand spend and supply chain strategies and drive immediate results

·       Implement best practices in procurement processes across diverse manufacturing environments, employing Lean techniques to reduce lead times, eliminate non-value-added activities, and enhance overall process efficiency

·       Lead efforts in commodity management, working closely with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and long-term agreements

·       Drive initiatives for supply base consolidation, optimizing vendor relationships to improve efficiency, reduce risks, and achieve cost savings

·       Negotiate and manage master supply agreements, ensuring that contractual terms are favorable and aligned with the company's strategic goals

·       Collaborate with legal and finance teams to develop and maintain robust contract management processes

·       Champion the company’s Lean Business System within Procurement as well as across the organization

·       Recruit, train, and lead a high-performing procurement team capable of executing strategic initiatives

·       Foster a culture of continuous learning, skill development, and knowledge sharing among team members

·       Implement effective performance management practices, providing regular feedback, coaching, and mentoring to nurture individual and team growth

 

 

Education and Experience

 

·       Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of related experience

·       7+ years of years of successful leadership experience in relevant industry

·       Proven experience as a Procurement Director or in a senior procurement leadership role on a global scale

·       In-depth knowledge of materials management, inventory reductions, payment term improvements, Kanban systems, safety stock, and re-order point strategies

·       Strong background in commodity management, master supply agreements, and successful supply base consolidation initiatives

·       Strong financial acumen to understand business needs for cash flow, working capital, and profitability

·       Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to inspire and drive a high-performing global procurement team

·       Exceptional negotiation and contract management capabilities

·       Experience with ERP and MRP systems such as NetSuite is required
