Location: Orlando or Tampa, FL (REMOTE eligible for extraordinary candidates)

Our client, a national leader in commercial title and escrow services, is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Counsel to provide underwriting guidance and support on complex real estate transactions. This role is ideal for a commercial real estate attorney or experienced title underwriter who enjoys applying legal analysis to real estate matters, solving problems in real time, and partnering with internal teams and clients to deliver best-in-class service.

 

The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, customer-centric communication skills, and the ability to manage a diverse pipeline of commercial transactions while applying underwriting standards and company guidelines.

 

 

Candidate Profile

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school with a strong academic record
  • Active Bar Admission in any US jurisdiction, in good standing
    • FL bar admission is preferred, but not required
  • 5–7 years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines
  • Solid understanding of commercial real estate transactions, title and settlement processes, and applicable federal and state regulations
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and clients
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant transaction volume
  • Effective communicator who can deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, and diplomacy
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to act decisively when needed
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges
  • Ability to travel to Orlando or Tampa as needed; remote candidates considered for extraordinary qualifications

 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide underwriting support and counsel on the issuance of title commitments and policies
  • Interpret and apply underwriting standards within delegated authority
  • Advise colleagues on real estate settlement procedures and requirements
  • Support resolution of title issues and guide transaction strategy
  • Communicate underwriting decisions to internal teams and external partners
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and process improvement

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $100,000 – $150,000+, as determined by experience and qualifications
