Our client is a designer and manufacturer of high-end, custom millwork and metalwork products used in branded environments, including retail fixtures, corporate offices, business displays, and exhibits. They are seeking a Lead Millwork Estimator, on-site in Irvine, CA to oversee and produce accurate cost estimates for a wide variety of custom projects. This role is ideal for someone who brings a deep understanding of fabrication, thrives in a collaborative environment, and enjoys working on highly custom, high-visibility projects.
 
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and profitable estimating processes while leading junior estimators and collaborating with project management, design, and production teams.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Produce detailed and accurate estimates for custom wood, metal, and specialty fabrication projects
  • Review drawings, specifications, and design intent to interpret scope and project requirements
  • Collaborate with project managers, design, operations, and procurement to align estimates with real-world execution
  • Lead and mentor junior estimators, standardizing processes and promoting best practices
  • Analyze vendor quotes, material/labor costs, and production capabilities to create competitive bids
  • Develop and maintain estimating tools, templates, and historical cost databases
  • Coordinate with global supply chain partners for current pricing, especially from Asia-based vendors
  • Support handoff meetings between estimating and project execution teams
  • Track estimated vs. actual job costs to improve accuracy and identify trends
  • Assist in pricing strategies, value engineering, and cost control throughout the bid process
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of estimating experience in millwork, custom fabrication, or related industry
  • 3+ years of experience in a senior or lead estimating role
  • Extensive knowledge of architectural millwork materials, fabrication methods, and production timelines
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings and design specifications
  • Proficiency in estimating tools such as Innergy, Bluebeam, ProEst, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and leadership capabilities
  • Experience working with international suppliers and understanding of global pricing logistics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent experience
