Controls Engineer (Automation / PLC / HMI)

Position Summary

The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, programming, and commissioning automation control systems. This includes creating and modifying PLC and HMI programs (Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and others) and designing electrical control panels using AutoCAD. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of controls engineering experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently from concept to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and program PLC and HMI systems using Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, and other industrial platforms.

  • Create, update, and maintain AutoCAD electrical schematics for control panel design and layout.

  • Manage project lifecycles including design, documentation, programming, testing, and commissioning.

  • Perform on-site installation, start-up, and commissioning (domestic / international travel 30–40%).

  • Provide remote and field technical support via phone, email, or site visits.

  • Collaborate with customers to assess application needs and propose control solutions.

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and project records.

  • Support internal panel shop, testing, and troubleshooting as needed.

  • Uphold safety, quality, and compliance standards on all projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical experience.

  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial controls engineering.

  • Proficiency in PLC / HMI programming (Rockwell Automation, Siemens TIA Portal, FactoryTalk View, etc.).

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools.

  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, motion control, sensors, pneumatics, and networking.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Capable of lifting 40 lbs and climbing ladders.

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.

  • US Citizen or Green Card Permanent Resident
