Automation Engineer / Chicago, Illinois

Our client is a leading provider of automation solutions for clients in the food/bev, chemical, pharma, water/wastewater, printing, packaging, and CNC machining industries. They specialize in designing and implementing custom control systems tailored to meet their clients' specific needs. As they continue to expand their operations, they are seeking a talented Automation Engineer to join their team and contribute to their ongoing success.

Day to Day

  • Specify automation and electrical components and software to meet customer specifications, application requirements, and industrial standards.
  • Design and configure PLC programs to optimize performance or resolve complex controls issues.
  • Support commissioning and startup of control systems, demonstrating the ability to identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues.
  • Provide on-site and support from the home office for installed systems, offering technical service assistance, troubleshooting, and repairs as needed.
  • Determine the root cause of electrical, mechanical, and software failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and maintain project files to ensure accurate documentation and efficient project management.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering managers to schedule and prioritize tasks effectively.

Qualifications to be Successful

  • Experience in the design and implementation of industrial control systems or control panels.
  • AS/BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or demonstrated experience in the industry.
  • Preferred experience with one or more of the following automation platforms: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, GE, Omron, Automation Direct, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Tatsoft, Ignition, iFix, Wonderware, as well as AC drives, DC drives, motion control, robotics, machine vision, and functional safety.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
