Job Purpose / SummaryThe Shipping Associate is responsible for the safe and efficient coordination of shippingactivities. This includes overseeing the loading and unloading of shipments, ensuringcompliance with safety protocols, and accurately documenting shipments. The role requiresworking closely with team members across various departments to ensure timely and accurateshipments and receipts of materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols including operating equipment such as tow motors,overhead cranes, and forklifts. Maintain a safe environment by following company safetyguidelines and conducting routine safety checks.
Material Handling: Stage materials, verify items against shipping orders, and preparematerials for shipment. This includes identifying proper loading docks and ensuringcorrect labeling and paperwork.
Shipping Coordination: Communicate with carriers and other departments to scheduleand track shipments, ensuring all shipments are processed according to schedule.
Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload materials, ensuring proper weightdistribution and securing materials using dunnage. Ensure that all materials are correctlylabeled and properly stored.
Documentation: Generate and maintain necessary shipping documentation, includingBills of Lading, NAFTA certificates, and Material Certifications. Update the inventorymanagement system and ensure all data is accurately recorded.
Customer Orders: Review and verify customer-specific shipping instructions, ensuringaccurate fulfillment of customer orders.
Quality Control: Inspect materials for damage before shipping, and coordinate withother departments to repair damaged materials as needed.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in shippingor logistics preferred.
Certifications: Must complete required training programs including the QS-9000certification and any safety training relevant to shipping operations.
Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret, and create shipping documentation andcommunication.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to use basic math skills and read measuring equipment.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to resolve practical problems and interpret a variety ofinstructions.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing,walking, and bending.
Specific vision requirements include close vision for inspecting materials anddocumentation.
Work Environment
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, and associates are expectedto work in conditions that require the ability to operate heavy machinery and handlematerials in a safe and organized manner
