We are partnering with a growing marine service and repair organization in the Sarasota, FL area who is seeking a SENIOR MARINE CANVAS & UPHOLSTERY TECHNICIAN to support the canvas/upholstery department. This person will be responsible for projects related to boat covers, enclosures, and cushions including estimating, patterning, producing, and installation of canvases and upholstery. Responsibilities:
Provide outstanding customer service to clients, boat owners, and other stakeholders to understand needs, recommend designs, provide project updates, and proactively address concerns
Estimate and quote all materials, resources, and timelines for each canvas/upholstery project; plan and schedule each project to meet deadlines on time and within quoted budget and resource allocation
Measure boats/vessels, analyze structure and design, and develop patterns and templates as guides for canvas fabrication process
Select appropriate upholstery and canvas materials for each project based on durability, water/UV resistance, accessories, and other required functionalities
Lead marine upholstery technicians in the fabrication process including cutting, sewing, and assembly of canvas materials utilizing sewing machines and other tools; inspect final products to ensure quality adherence, attention to fit, strength, functionality, and aesthetics
Install all custom products, including on irregular boat structures; repair existing canvas/upholstery including patching of small tears and replacement of worn components as needed
Manage inventory levels of upholstery materials, fabrics, tools, and equipment; source and order materials; oversee proper use and maintenance of equipment and materials
Stay abreast of latest upholstery techniques, materials, and design trends to improve quality, efficiency, and aesthetics of upholstery work
Requirements:
Proven work experience as an upholsterer; able to draw and interpret design templates
MUST be able to demonstrate outstanding experience in Project Management
Marine industry experience working on canvas/upholstery projects on boats/vessels up to 130 feet in length HIGHLY preferred
Comfortable working in high temperatures and varying weather up to 50% of the time
Comfortable and able to INSTALL final canvas projects in and on boats and other marine vessels accordingly
Intermediate to advanced computer skills required; Prodim Proliner experience beneficial
Able to showcase portfolio of canvas/patterning projects
