Position Summary:

The Site Maintenance & Reliability Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainability of total maintenance systems across the manufacturing facility. This role leads efforts to enhance equipment reliability, optimize maintenance processes, manage maintenance budgets, and drive throughput improvements through cross-functional collaboration. The role also provides strategic leadership of the maintenance leadership team, implementing maintenance programs, and advancing continuous improvement initiatives across operations.

This position directs a team of nine maintenance technicians, the controls engineer and our blow molder personnel, providing daily leadership, coaching, and performance management to ensure operational readiness and technical excellence. A critical contributor to BKF’s lean manufacturing transformation, this role works cross-functionally to implement TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), standard work, root cause analysis, and preventive maintenance programs that drive sustainable OEE gains.

The ideal candidate is hands-on and action-oriented—capable of leading in a dynamic environment and coaching team members through change. Success in this role demands the ability to balance short-term equipment recovery efforts with long-term system improvements that support growth, quality, and delivery goals. This role reports to the COO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program.
  • Document procedures.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs to monitor and improve equipment uptime, reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Leverage Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles to minimize equipment downtime and maximize asset utilization.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and corrective actions to eliminate chronic equipment failures.
  • Conduct regular reviews of critical spare parts inventory to ensure availability while optimizing inventory levels and working capital.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance and engineering leadership team to build organizational capability.
  • Implement talent development processes for maintenance and technical leaders.
  • Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams to identify and resolve process bottlenecks.
  • Drive alignment between maintenance programs and production requirements to ensure optimal throughput.
  • Oversee capital improvement initiatives and engineering upgrades aligned with long-term strategic goals.
  • Manage multiple maintenance and reliability improvement projects simultaneously with clear timelines and deliverables.
  • Apply data-driven prioritization to allocate resources effectively and maximize ROI.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the annual maintenance budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with business objectives.
  • Monitor actual expenses vs. budget, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or equipment performance.
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics to ensure progress and identify improvement opportunities.
