Are you a Middle or High School Educator with Special Education experience who wants to play a key role as Director of Education for Troy Alternative School in Columbia City? Troy School is an accredited, independent, non-profit school for grades 6-12 and has developed a customized educational design that provides students with quality academic training plus support in counseling, life-skills development, and parent development. The school provides a 1:7 staff to student ratio. As Director of Education, you will report to the Executive Director. You will have a staff of up to 23 reporting to you, most who work part-time. You will be responsible for a successful teaching and learning environment for students and staff.
You will:
• Apply a clear vision for TROY School.• Manage the school’s teaching, transportation, and operations staff.• Be responsible for attracting, interviewing, hiring, retaining, developing and evaluating (as required by the Indiana Dept. of Education) properly qualified faculty and staff, as well as terminating staff when needed.• Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration among staff, parents and students by creating a trusting, collaborative, open and positive atmosphere.• Carry out, review, and maintain, compliance with established school policies and the requirements of the Indiana Dept. of Education • Ensure that school policies are followed and fosters a high-quality learning environment.• Plan and carry out staff meetings, coordinate any staff training/professional development, ensure there is adequate staff on a day-to-day basis, and may fill-in as necessary in the classroom or where staff is needed.• Develop and enforces discipline in support of the school’s mission, adhering to all State guidelines and laws.• Assist the Executive Director in developing a long-term, multi-year strategic plan by proposing relevant priorities and implementing key action plans, goals and desired outcomes.• Ensures legal compliance with all federal, state and local regulations in conjunction with the executive director.
Your background should include:
• Organizational leadership experience with a proven record of success.• Strong planning skills.• Strong strategic thinking with an ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities effectively.• Strong communication skills with an ability to motivate and inspire staff, students, families, and other school stakeholders.• Knowledge of local, state and federal laws applying to private schools and freeway schools.• A dedication to establishing and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with students, staff and families.• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, which includes the 6-12 education sector. Experience with special education students strongly preferred. Experience developing curriculum a plus.• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Education a plus.• A detail-oriented, quality and precision-focused, innovative, outcome-results focused leader.
