Job Title: Production ManagerDepartment: PlantReports To: Plant Manager
The Operations Manager directs and coordinates all activities of the production departments while working closely with support teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. This role oversees production supervision and hourly plant employees in the manufacturing of frozen ground beef products, with an emphasis on Safety, Quality, Service, and Profitability.
In addition to meat processing, experience in bakery manufacturing is also highly relevant and considered a strong fit for this role.
Review production orders and schedules to determine product data such as types, quantities, and specifications.
Inspect machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and utilization.
Direct production supervisors and employees to maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, sanitation requirements, SQF/GMP compliance, and food safety regulations.
Provide coaching and enforce safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
Drive efficiency by minimizing waste, rejects, and substandard product while maximizing cost-effectiveness.
Oversee accurate production recordkeeping.
Partner with maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal mechanical condition.
Lead accident and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Ensure employees are properly trained on job responsibilities and safety standards.
Foster a positive workplace culture, maintaining morale and addressing performance issues when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Direct oversight of all production functions, including supervisors and hourly staff.
Responsibilities include training, workforce planning, performance appraisals, recognition/discipline, and conflict resolution.
Significant leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment required.
Strongly preferred: experience in the meat industry (ground beef operations) or bakery manufacturing, with knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, sanitation, process improvement, safety programs, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
Proven ability to lead teams, make sound decisions, manage change, and resolve conflicts.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to align team performance with organizational goals.
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and/or 10 years of related experience in the meat or bakery manufacturing industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with employees and management.
Proficiency in PC-based office programs required.
Ability to calculate rate, ratio, percentages, and perform basic arithmetic functions.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues.
Capable of interpreting a variety of written, oral, and diagram-based instructions.
Must be able to work in a refrigerated climate.
