Position Summary 

We are seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead the strategic direction and operational management of the HR function within a dynamic and highly regulated environment. This role plays a critical part in shaping organizational culture, driving performance, and supporting leadership in key areas such as succession planning, talent development, change management, training, and compensation strategy. 

The Director provides hands-on leadership across all aspects of the department, ensuring internal controls, compliance, and regulatory standards are met. The position also serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and governing bodies, helping to align HR initiatives with broader organizational goals. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

  • Develops and enforces departmental standards, policies, and objectives in alignment with the organization’s mission and vision. 

  • Leads a motivated, skilled HR team through clear communication, coaching, and performance development. 

  • Establishes and executes strategic HR plans that improve operational efficiency and ensure compliance with best practices. 

  • Manages all areas of employee lifecycle support, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, separations, and personnel transactions. 

  • Provides leadership on employee relations, including coaching, discipline, conflict resolution, and employee assistance. 

  • Develops compensation strategies based on wage and salary data; presents recommendations to leadership and governing boards. 

  • Oversees health and welfare benefit plans, including COBRA, workers’ compensation, UI, FMLA, and retirement plans. 

  • Leads employee engagement, milestone recognition, training and development, and workplace safety programs. 

  • Authors and updates HR policies and procedures related to employment law, compensation, and employee health and welfare benefits. 

  • Conducts or oversees timely and compliant investigations related to employee complaints and regulatory inquiries. 

  • Supports compliance in onboarding and disciplinary/termination procedures. 

  • Identifies departmental training needs and ensures continued development for all HR staff. 

  • Analyzes budgetary performance and operational metrics to optimize service delivery and cost-efficiency. 

  • Implements strong internal controls and regulatory compliance processes to reduce risk and improve accountability. 

  • Maintains department documentation and procedures in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. 

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with internal departments, leadership, and external community organizations. 

  • Manages the department’s operating and capital budgets to achieve or exceed performance expectations. 

  • Promotes collaboration with executive leadership and other department heads to advance strategic initiatives and operational goals. 

  • Ensures confidential and secure handling of all company and department data. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
