Nurse Manager, Critical Care Services

Schedule: Full-time, Days (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Salary: $230,000 - $265,000 per year, plus a $25,000 sign-on bonus  + 15% annual bonus+ Paid Relocation available.

Position Summary

The Nurse Manager, Critical Care Services is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the 24/7 strategic and operational oversight of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This position directs the implementation of best practice models, manages all business and clinical functions, and ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, standardized, and patient-centered care. The Manager is expected to drive continuous quality improvement, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a collaborative environment across multidisciplinary teams in this high-acuity setting

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical & Quality Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of best practice models and patient care delivery systems, including practice standards, across the ICU and potentially several other locations.

  • Ensure safe patient care across the continuum by facilitating collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team.

  • Maintain clinical expertise, provide clinical supervision, and ensure staff competency and licensing compliance.

  • Drive continuous improvement in the quality and safety of clinical practices, services, and operations for both patients and staff.

  • Hold staff accountable for maintaining compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., Nursing Practice Act, TJC, federal, state, and local requirements).

Operational, Financial, and Administrative Management

  • Manage designated units/teams by translating business plans into tactical action items and ensuring all policies and procedures are followed.

  • Develop, monitor, and control the departmental payroll and non-payroll budget, leading financial management and cost control initiatives.

  • Assume accountability for hospital administrative functions including Human Resources (e.g., recruitment, performance management, labor relations), risk management, and workplace safety.

  • Design and lead continuous survey readiness activities (e.g., mock rounds) and mitigate issues to maintain compliance and regulatory standards.

  • Manage resources within the Critical Care Services area to ensure appropriate assignment, utilization, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and medications.

Strategic Planning and Development

  • Lead and implement long-term cross-functional strategic projects aimed at achieving goals related to issue remediation, improved quality, service, and/or operating efficiency.

  • Develop and manage a structured approach for identifying root causes and implementing solutions to improve operations system processes and address quality/safety issues.

  • Create and advocate for developmental opportunities for staff, including hiring, training, and strategic talent evaluation for succession planning.

  • Oversee the implementation of organizational change, ensuring teams adapt to new best practices and industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience:

    • Minimum five (5) years of experience in patient care delivery.

    • Minimum five (5) years of experience in business operations, clinical health care, or a directly related field.

    • Minimum four (4) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Licensure/Certification:

    • Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire.

    • Basic Life Support required at hire.
