Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Director of Counseling Services to oversee social work, spiritual care, bereavement, volunteer, and complementary therapy programs. This full-time position is based out of our Goshen, NY office and provides in-person services for patients in Orange County.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, manage, and supervise counseling services, including social work, spiritual care, bereavement support, volunteer, and complementary therapy programs.

  • Interview, hire, and orient new staff for positions within the counseling services department.

  • Perform the duties of a social worker during peak census times or in the absence of staff, including patient/family assessments, plan of care development, and interventions.

  • Lead a community-based spiritual care team.

  • Plan and evaluate counseling functions, assigning patient/families to counseling staff and ensuring appropriate caseloads.

  • Provide coverage for staff caseloads during absences and vacancies.

  • Supervise and review all documentation to ensure compliance with hospice standards of practice.

  • Conduct performance appraisals, including field evaluation visits, and provide feedback for staff development.

  • Mentor and coach staff to maximize performance and address performance concerns with the Director of Clinical Services.

  • Onboard departmental staff and assess ongoing needs to develop plans for continuous improvement.

  • Lead monthly department meetings and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

  • Supervise support groups and bereavement activities.

  • Conduct chart audits, monitor compliance with regulations and accreditation standards, and initiate performance improvement projects.

  • Rotate as administrator-on-call.

  • Provide community outreach and education on relevant subject matters and schedule department staff for outreach activities.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or related mental health degree is required.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the field (hospice experience preferred), with at least two years in a supervisory role.

  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and State hospice care regulations and accrediting body standards.

  • Understanding of psychosocial and spiritual care assessments and interventions for end-of-life care.

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate staff.

  • Excellent decision-making and critical-thinking skills.

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

  • Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work.

  • Experience supervising volunteers and social work interns.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, EMRs, and the ability to learn new software.

  • Valid driver’s license, access to a car, and current insurance for travel to patient locations and field supervision as needed.
