The Senior Financial Analyst must maintain precise and timely accounting, reconciliation, and reporting for investment portfolio, ensuring accuracy in general ledger entries and compliance with institutional policies using advanced Excel skills and ERP GL. Success hinges on independently resolving discrepancies with the custodian of investment office, implementing process improvements to enhance internal controls, and delivering reliable financial reports for audits and tax compliance. Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are critical for effective investment administration and process ownership.

Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst Investment is a key member of the Finance Department, responsible for managing the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of a diverse very large fund investment asset portfolio. This includes endowment funds, bond proceeds, separately managed accounts, stock investments, trust assets, and other specialized accounts. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, supports compliance, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to maintain robust financial processes. Working independently, the Specialist drives process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and advanced Excel skills (e.g., v-lookup, pivot tables, sum-ifs).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across departments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Preferred: Experience in investment or fund accounting, large ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Peoplesoft), and audit processes; ability to take ownership of projects and conduct independent research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely journal entries to record investment activities and transactions.
  • Reconcile monthly general ledger accounts and custodian reports to ensure data accuracy.
  • Analyze investment data and produce financial reports, including market value summaries and tax-related roll-forward schedules.
  • Partner with technology transfer teams to allocate equity sale proceeds accurately between stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed records for gifted securities, coordinating with advancement teams to resolve valuation or allocation issues.
  • Process wire transfers and manage cash receipts and disbursements for investment accounts.
  • Support compliance reporting, including tax deliverables and periodic surveys.
  • Provide schedules and analyses for interim and year-end audits, such as fair value disclosures.
  • Collaborate with real estate and investment teams to ensure proper recording of acquired or gifted properties.
  • Cross-train in cash accounting functions and document key financial processes.
