Due to growth and a promotion, our mid-sized client is adding an Engineering Manager to the team. The Engineering Manager will support all Manufacturing Engineering functions to ensure manufacturing processes meet productivity, cost, quality, and delivery requirements. Responsibilities also include maintaining customer relationships with external partners. There will be nine direct reports, which are a mix of Manufacturing Engineering (both ME & EE) and Technicians.

Your role with the company:

  1. Manages a team of Manufacturing Engineering and Technician resources to develop effective manufacturing methods, tools, processes, machines, and documentation.
  2. Drives and establishes internal processes in support of team members and functional activities.
  3. Ensures production processes meet productivity, yield, and quality requirements.
  4.  Drive continuous improvement initiatives and challenge the status quo• Push the team to identify areas for improvement and steer those efforts• Focus on reducing scrap and improving process efficiency• Provide structured leadership, including one-on-ones and setting clear expectations for performance
  5. Ensures production processes meet requirements of applicable safety rules and regulations.
  6. The team consists of relatively experienced engineers with tenure, which presents an opportunity for continuity and depth of knowledge, but also a challenge in pushing them out of their comfort zones and breaking status quo.
  7. Manages moderately complex projects, involving delegation and review of work, acting as team leader.
  8. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  9. Main point of contact for designated external partnerships regarding Manufacturing operations.
Desired Profile:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical (preferred), electrical, biomedical engineering, physics or similar field of study or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years engineering experience in the medical device industry and/or contract manufacturing. Or advanced degree with four (4) years of experience.
  • 2+ years of having direct reports
  • Experience driving resources, reducing scrap, and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A leader who is structured in their approach, sets clear expectations, and is performance-driven.
  • The ideal candidate should have an eye for continuous improvement, challenge the status quo, and push the team to improve.
  •  A "kind heart, steel backbone" approach is desired, meaning someone who cares about people but is also capable of delivering results, making tough decisions, and not wilting under pressure.
  • The candidate should be able to set immovable boundaries.
