Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Structural Steel Checker to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design drawings, industry standards, and project specifications. This is a hybrid role based out of our Novi, MI office, offering flexibility along with collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Check structural steel and miscellaneous steel shop drawings prepared by in-house detailers and engineers.
• Verify dimensions, connections, and member sizes against structural and architectural contract drawings.
• Ensure compliance with AISC, and project-specific standards.
• Review and coordinate with design documents, RFI responses, and client markups.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Detailers, Engineers, and Clients to resolve issues and improve drawing quality.
• Provide clear and consistent feedback to detailers and project teams.
• Track and document checking progress to ensure on-time project delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in structural steel detailing and/or checking.  Model checking experience a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of AISC standards.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting structural and architectural drawings.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu 
• Familiarity with SDS/2, Tekla, or AutoCAD-based tools preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with fabricators and erectors on commercial, industrial, or institutional projects.
• Prior experience in a fast-paced engineering or consulting firm.
