Job Title: 2nd Shift CNC Lathe Machinist

Location: Swartz Creek, MI Shift: 2nd Shift (typically 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)Department: Manufacturing/ProductionReports To: Production Manager

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated 2nd Shift CNC Lathe Machinist to join our client's growing manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating, and setting up CNC lathes to produce precision parts in accordance with customer specifications. You will work with a variety of materials and ensure that all parts meet strict quality standards, while adhering to safety protocols and production deadlines.

This position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of machining processes and CNC equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • CNC Lathe Operation & Setup:

    • Set up and operate CNC lathe machines to produce high-quality parts.

    • Program CNC lathes using G-code, and edit programs as necessary to ensure the production of accurate and precise parts.

    • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements.

    • Ensure the correct tools, fixtures, and equipment are used for the specific job.

  • Quality Control:

    • Conduct regular inspections of finished products using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, etc.) to ensure they meet specified tolerances.

    • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues or defects to maintain consistent part quality.

    • Perform first-piece inspections and maintain documentation of quality checks.

  • Maintenance and Safety:

    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC lathe machines to ensure optimal performance and extend machine life.

    • Follow all safety guidelines and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.

    • Assist in the calibration and maintenance of tools and equipment.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with other machinists, engineers, and production team members to meet production goals.

    • Communicate effectively with the team to report any issues or delays in production.

    • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives and provide input on process optimization.

  • Production Goals:

    • Meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets in a timely and efficient manner.

    • Manage time effectively to maximize productivity and minimize downtime during the shift.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; CNC machining certification or technical training is a plus.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating CNC lathe machines, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of CNC lathe operation and setup.

    • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.).

    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

    • Familiarity with safety procedures and machinery maintenance.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
