Dielectric Application Engineer / Regional Application Engineering Leader

Job Summary

The Dielectric Application Engineer serves as the regional subject matter expert (SME) on the application and use of specialized insulating liquids (such as natural ester fluid like FR3 fluid) and mineral oil in electrical transformers. This role provides critical technical consultation and support to commercial sales teams, existing customers, and transformer manufacturers to drive product adoption, ensure optimal system performance, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Technical Expertise & Consultation

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the authority on the technical properties, performance, and application of dielectric fluids (natural esters and mineral oil).

  • Customer Solutions: Translate complex customer requirements, design specifications, and performance challenges into actionable technical solutions, recommending the correct product and application method.

  • Design Support: Understand basic transformer design and manufacturing processes to advise engineers and manufacturers on how the chosen insulating liquid will affect design decisions, performance, and longevity.

  • Troubleshooting: Provide advanced technical support for existing and prospective customers to resolve complex issues related to fluid performance, maintenance, and equipment reliability.

2. Commercial and Business Development Support

  • Pre-Sales Support: Collaborate closely with the commercial and sales teams, providing the necessary technical data, presentations, and product comparisons to secure new business.

  • Training & Education: Develop and deliver technical training, workshops, and educational content to end-users, utility engineers, consultants, and transformer manufacturers.

  • Industry Representation: Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and technical forums by writing technical papers and delivering presentations to promote product innovation and benefits.

  • Project Management: Oversee and manage individual technology evaluation and adoption projects within the regional scope of responsibility.

3. Quality, Compliance, and Innovation

  • Compliance: Ensure the application of the dielectric fluids and related technical guidance aligns with all relevant industry standards (ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, etc.) and regulatory requirements.

  • Innovation: Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to identify new application opportunities, product enhancement needs, and technological developments for the R&D team.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, application notes, and case studies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical/engineering field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of professional work experience in a technical, engineering, or product support role, preferably within the electrical power systems or industrial fluid industries.

  • Domain Knowledge: Solid, verifiable experience and a strong understanding of insulating liquids in transformers (mineral oil and/or natural ester fluids).

  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel frequently (often up to 50%) to support regional commercial teams and conduct on-site customer meetings and training.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution components (transformers, switchgear, etc.).

  • Experience in power or distribution transformer design/manufacturing is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in project and product management methodologies.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to clearly articulate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate effective technical relationships with high-level customer contacts (consulting engineers, EPCs, end-users).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
