Job Title: Engineering Manager – Injection Molding

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager will lead, develop, and optimize engineering and manufacturing processes in a fast-paced injection molding facility. This role ensures that production operations meet or exceed safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives. The Engineering Manager will drive process improvements, manage capital projects, and support a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Development:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of 25, Process engineers, and process technicians
    • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
    • Conduct performance reviews and identify professional development opportunities.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Oversee injection molding processes to ensure efficiency high quality standards.
    • Identify areas for improvement; utilizing operational excellence and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Maintain and enhance manufacturing SOPs to drive consistency & reduce variability.
  • Production Management:
    • Monitor daily production metrics and ensure targets for quality, cycle time yield, and waste reduction are met.
    • Troubleshoot production issues, collaborating with the process engineers and technicians, maintenance and quality teams as necessary.
    • Implement corrective actions and process changes to minimize downtime.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
    • Work closely with quality control teams to conduct root-cause analyses and implement preventative measures.
  • Project Management:
    • Plan, lead, and execute capital & process improvement projects within budget and timeline.
    • Evaluate new technologies and equipment to improve operational efficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Uphold safety regulations and ensure a safe work environment.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Reporting & Metrics:
    • Track KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), TEEP (Total Equipment Efficiency Productivity) cycle times, scrap rates, and downtime.
    • Prepare reports and present operational performance to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing) or a related field. 
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in injection molding or plastics manufacturing.
    • 2+ years of extrusion blow molding experience
    • 2+ years of supervisory or managerial experience. 
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
    • Familiarity with injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
    • Experience with ERP systems and data-driven decision-making.
  • Capacity Planning & Analysis:
    • Evaluate current production capabilities and identify bottlenecks or areas for capacity improvement.
    • Conduct regular capacity analysis to ensure production can meet current and future demand.
    • Develop plans to scale operations or optimize resource utilization based on analysis findings.
  • Equipment Procurement & CapEx Management:
    • Identify, justify, and oversee the purchase and installation of new equipment to enhance production capabilities.
    • Develop and manage capital expenditure (Cap Ex) projects, ensuring alignment with business goals, budget constraints, and timelines.
    • Work with vendors to evaluate equipment options, negotiate contracts, and manage the implementation process.
    • Ensure new equipment meets safety, quality, ROI and productivity standards.
